The responses range from the extremely negative , to the few who display unconditional positive regard and understanding . What fascinates me is our ability to separate what we want for ourselves and what we want for other . people If I do wrong , I want mercy . If somebody else does wrong , I want justice . Be honest , isn’t that true If I run afoul with the law , I get an attorney and hopefully he’ll get me off . The fact that I am guilty doesn’t enter into it , because I am only concerned about minimizing the inconvenience to my life . If my son or daughter gets into trouble , there I am to protect them and ease the blow . Better yet , if I can blame somebody else , that’s all the better . But , if it’s somebody else that gets into trouble , oh boy , throw the book at . them The idea of mercy is difficult , because it’s hard to understand in the context of consequences . If someone

The character Montana is a Cuban exile , and gets hooked up with a big time drug dealer in Miami . Eventually , through murder and other strong arm tactics , Montana takes over the entire empire . Montana is ambitious , but most of all he is exceedingly greedy . No matter how much money he rakes in , it’s not enough . He sees his mother and his sister as the only good things in his life , but his mother rejects him for his lifestyle , and after his sister marries his best friend and close business associate , he murders his friend , thinking that he is protecting her . It’s twisted , profoundly sad , and illustrative of the fact that the drug business is particularly nasty . How many Tony Montana types are out there in the world They are people who want to get ahead , to have the good life and are willing to steal and kill to get it . They shun education or

Addiction is a coward that likes to hide in the shadows and the best way to fight that shadow is to turn on a light . He did things his own way , with no regard for what tomorrow might . bring Kenny was found early that morning outside the apartment building where he was doing drugs with an acquaintance . The EMT said he was down for about an hour when they found him on the sidewalk , wearing only his underwear . The frontal lobe of the teenage brain is not yet fully formed , and decision-making skills are under developed . Teens seldom see beyond the immediate and do not realize long-term consequences of their bad choices with drugs . Teens feel invincible and do not believe that anything bad is going to happen , regardless of how many times some of them may have been warned about the use of drugs . Teens are targets for dealers . They are looking for something to do , looking for a new experience , looking to have a good time . Suburban teenagers may have a lot of money , and it s that money that fuels the drug trafficking in the United States . On top of that is peer pressure to be cool . Teens struggle more with drugs because they make bad decisions . Hopefully , they have those who love them and will get into treatment

Sometimes we try to put the cart before the horse , getting side tracked on issues that aren’t germane to the . problem Emily Grace Whitacre has been involved with interventions for over 20 years and has learned that the motivation for treatment may not be the person’s health , but may come from a completely different direction .
